Many Toronto residents feel that ‘cottage country’ is at least an hour and a half or two hours from the city. But the reality is that cottage country is within commuting distance and that’s why Georgina houses for sale are in such high demand.

Wait? What? Where’s Georgina and Why are So Many People Moving There?

The Town of Georgina hugs the southeast shores of Lake Simcoe, but is also less than an hour’s drive to Toronto. So how did cottage country suddenly get so close to the big city? Highway 404, which connects to the Don Valley Parkway and downtown Toronto, now extends to Keswick, one of the bustling communities in Georgina. Commuters can also make use of the GO Transit network between Keswick and Toronto.

The arrival of Hwy. 404 and public transit connections have turned what was once considered a collection of laid-back cottage communities into mini urban areas. So you can own a home that’s within minutes of beautiful beaches on Lake Simcoe, but with city amenities, including schools, community centers, shopping, sports clubs, restaurants and entertainment.

Another big attraction of buying a house in Georgina is it’s relative affordability compared to other towns in the GTA. While the community saw some of the highest growth in home prices during the recent real estate boom, you can still find beautiful, modern well-built homes for about half the price of similar homes not that much further south.

Sometimes it’s difficult for people elsewhere to understand the lifestyle they can enjoy in Georgina. While you can be at work in or near Toronto during the day, you can be sailing on Lake Simcoe in the early evening. After a tough week, you can go camping in Sibbald’s Point Provincial Park, which is entirely within Georgina. Even in winter, there’s lots to do with snowmobiling and Junior C hockey for starters.

With plans in the approval stages to extend the 404 further through Georgina, the allure of living there will only grow. So you better put your plans in place to buy a house for sale in Georgina!
