Maybe it’s because we live and breathe residential real estate, but we absolutely love when the new interior design trends come out each year. For 2022, they may be more important than ever. We’re spending more time indoors, so why not change this up! So let’s get to it.
Check Out These Leading Interior Design Trends for 2022
We’ve searched the internet for interior design trends from many different sources. Many of the trends are common across the board, and some are unique ideas we found in only one place. Regardless, we’ve assembled the best of the best right here, just for you.
1. Colour Trends
You can’t just jump into design trends without setting the stage first. And that means the colour of your rooms. Right off the top, there’s one trend that’s happening everywhere. To see what we mean, check out the Benjamin Moore Colour of the Year 2022, October Mist, and compare it to Dulux Paint’s 2022 Colour of the Year, Olive Sprig. See the trend?!
2. Organic Furnishings
Trends don’t just differ based on the new directions that designers take. As you can imagine, you’ll get different sorts of trends from the pages of Vogue as you might from an interior design blogger. But here’s another time when the trend remains consistent, from Vogue to the “top medium-sized newspaper in Texas and five other states“.
Don’t worry, neither of them recommends furniture made of sea kelp or any other “organics”. But, according to an interior designer, Laura Umansky, “Design is focusing more on wellness and sustainability while intersecting with function. COVID-19 expedited this direction exponentially. Individuals are putting a higher value on physical and mental wellness, and it affects how we are designing.”
The result, according to Umansky and others, is that comfort is more important than ever. And the designs for 2022 take a more ‘organic’ direction, including “curved shapes, cozy bouclé chairs, puffy cloud sofas, undulating tabletops and swooping armchairs”.
3. Traditional Details
The trend towards more comfort isn’t just about furniture that’s comfortable to use. With the world changing in so many different ways, there’s a marked shift to traditional details in interior décor. From the curvy furniture mentioned above to mixing patterns, and antique pieces, we’re looking for a sense of comfort from our interior design too.
4. Three-Dimensional Art
Maybe we need something new to look at as we spend more time at home. Or maybe the creative options of 3D art are too many to ignore. But from objects, shapes and sculptures, to neon-light creations, anything that pops off the wall works in 2022.
5. Distinct Spaces
This is another trend that may be inspired by more time at home. And this may be yet another move away from the open-concept trend. but designers are predicting the creation of more personal spaces. Places where each member of the household can retreat. Think reading nooks, home bars and more attention to home office spaces.
