moving checklist in Ontario to help make your transition seamless

Put These Items on Your Moving Checklist in Ontario

If you recently had your Markham house up for sale, you know the drill. Moving day is your only focus until it is over. Among other things, you need to contact the post office, get your gas, electricity and water started in the new place – and stopped in the old – and find moving boxes, a moving company and a particular shade of saffron for the new kitchen.

If your moving checklist isn’t very long, then you’re probably missing some important points. But, even if you use one of the extensive lists that you can find on the web, you still might be missing a few items that are crucial to your move.

Your Moving Checklist for Ontario

Ontario is “yours to discover,” especially when you set off to move within the province. There are a few things that are particular to our area, climate and culture that you should add to your moving checklist.

  1. Keep a Snow Shovel, Rake and/or Broom Handy on Moving Day – We all get to enjoy the beauty of the four seasons here in Ontario. That means, if you’re moving in the fall, you may need to keep driveways and walkways clear of leaves for the safety of your family and your movers. In winter, you may need to shovel snow at your new home if the previous owners moved out a while ago.
  2. Make Time for All Your Garden Equipment – Again due to our seasonal weather Ontarians tend to have more garden equipment than most. Your garage may have a leaf blower, weed whacker, lawnmower, hedge trimmer and/or snow blower. It’s best and safest to drain all the gas and oil from garden equipment before your move and fold-down handles to protect the equipment and save space in the moving truck. Remember to fill-up before you use any of the equipment at the new house!
  3. Have a Cool Place Outside – Ontario is also well known for its humid summers. Even with the AC on, doors and windows may be open for extended periods at both your old house and your new home. Especially if you have kids, the sweltering heat, on top of the disruption of the move, can be a challenge for them. Try to find a cool spot in the yard or elsewhere and pack some activities for them to do there to help make the move feel faster and less disturbing for them.
